When the sun is shining the last place you want to be is in a gym. So this summer, break out of your regular gym routine and try some of these ideas for a great outdoor workout:

-Brandish the Blades: A pair of rollerblades at Target is a mere $25 bucks. Head down to the boardwalk with these babies to burn almost 200 calories in a half hour.

-Take in the Sights on a Bike:For those who love the sights and smells of the ocean, the bike path along the stretch of beach from Marina Del Rey to Will Rogers is the perfect place the cruise the views. Park your car in MDR and make the 14 mile roundtrip to burn about 300 calories. Beginner? Try just the Marina to Santa Monica and back. That's 8.5 miles and about 180 calories.

-Pier to Pier Fun Run: Need a place to train for your next 5K? A jog from Santa Monica Pier to Venice Pier is a cool 3 miles. If you’re training for a 10K turn it into a roundtrip. If not, walk back and grab breakfast at Sidewalk CafĂ© along the way. They have amazing egg white omlettes with a choice of cottage cheese or fruit on the side.

-Conquer the Stairs: For a fitness blast that is sure to leave your buns on fire, head down to the famed Santa Monica Stairs at 4th Street and Adelaide Drive. This 189 steep step monstrosity is constantly packed with super ripped Brentwood hard bodies. Try it out just to say you did or to burn about 250 calories in 30 minutes.

-Make Like Nemo: And of course you can't forget about the most obvious exercise asset of Santa Monica, the water itself! Swimming in the ocean is a stellar way to tone your entire body while torching calories. Try to make it out to a buoy or just tread water while floating around with a friend. An hour of ocean activities burns around 400 calories.
