The Man Behind "The Hills" Hottie's Bodies

I had the pleasure of meeting celebrity fitness instructor and nutritionist Jarett Del Bene at the Muscle Milk boot camp last week. You know, he's L.C. and Audrina's hottie trainer on The Hills who went on a date with Whitney Port?!? Ok, maybe you're not as obsessed with reality T.V. trivia as I am...

To the point: Bene's Body Box class was fabulous and super fun! But since I can't bring his personalized punching routine to your home, I scored a Q and A sesh for you guys to get to the bottom of how stars like the Hills honeys stay so slim.

Q: "With summer in full effect, everyone is struggling to tone up those problem areas in time to bare their bods on the beach. What do you recommend to your clients when they need to get fit quick?"

A: "You definitely want to stay consistent with a diet of 1500 calories to 1200 calories for at least 3 to 4 weeks. Diet is about 65-70 percent of losing weight. "

Jarett suggests a high protein diet consisting of grilled chicken, fish, green vegetables, and the occasional cup of brown rice.

Q: "A lot of people say you need to completely ditch carbs to drop weight fast. Are you a carb-nazi with your clients?"

A: "You want to limit your intake of it, but what I tell my clients is to eat your heavy carbs in the morning, not at night. I would have limited portions of it, something small like a 3 oz portion. "

Bene says some carbs he likes are whole wheat pitas, oatmeal, and all veggies. He also says if you're big on sandwiches, try just scooping out the middle of the bread to save a few carb cals.

Q: "So what is your number one nutrition rule?"

A: "Always pass on greasy foods. Eat clean: no processed foods, no fast food."

I asked then whether my favorite guilty pleasure (Chinese food) is completely out of the question, but Bene said even he indulges in a little P.F. Chang's once and a while. He says he gets the meat and vegetables steamed and sauce on the side.

Q: "So like you said, exercise is obviously important too. What's your number one fitness tip?"

A: "Consistency. You must stay consistent with a workout. Don’t workout for a full week and then not come back in the gym for a week. Stay consistent. If it’s three days a week, do that for 10 to 12 weeks and you will see a difference. "

Stay tuned for part two of my interview with Bene when he will answer one readers perplexing question: Is it better to eat a "bad" breakfast or skip breakfast all together?

You'll be surprised by his answer!
