UPDATE: Power Balance B.S.

Update 1/6/2011

Despite numerous comments on the video I made disputing the effectiveness of the Power Balance bracelet, a class action lawsuit filed in Los Angeles this week supports my opinion that the band is a bunch of BS!

The lawsuit states that PB execs acknowledged that there was no scientific evidence supporting their claim that the bracelet enhances performance, yet they continued to mislead the public.

The suit asks that consumers be reimbursed to a tune of $5 million.

More info here.

10/25/2010 Power Balance is a bracelet that purports to work with your body's natural energy field to increase balance, strength, and flexibility.

Given that the simple rubber wristlet has nothing but a small silver hologram sticker on it however, one would find it hard to believe that there is any progressive "technology" in this trendy sports accessory.

But just to be sure (because for all I know it's made of Michael Jordan's sweat and tears), I put the bracelet to the test myself.

On the PB website three sports players are taken through a series of tests where they try a drill with the arm band and then without it. Unfortunately the site doesn't show what happens without the band, which seems to be a pretty futile use of a test video.

So with the help of my little sister Tara, I tried the drills myself. Here is the before AND after...

These bracelets go for almost $30 at Finish Line! At that price you're better off buying a new pair of running shorts which would likely be more inspiring than some gimmicky wrist band.
