Another tool for soft tissue work that can save you a lot of pain, suffering and visits to therapists.
The Stick rolls knots out of muscle, providing myofascial release and trigger point therapy. This therapeutic procedure inactivates trigger points (muscle knots/kinks), warms muscle, increases circulation and encourages nutrient-rich blood flow. The Stick relieves pain, increases range of motion, promotes flexlibility and accelerates recovery. You can purchase one here.
The stick is a good tool for general massage, but the foam roller allows you to apply more pressure (using your own body weight) for tougher problems. For even more "aggressive" therapy on stubborn knots, you can use a lacrosse ball, in a similar fashion as the foam roller, to pinpoint those stubborn areas. See Kelly Starrett's MWOD page.
