One of my first posts included the lowest of low calorie products for all your grocery store staples. Since then I have found a few more favorites that I need to fill you in on...
PB2 Powered Peanut Butter
As a self diagnosed peanut butter addict, finding this amazing alternative was like the day Kathie Lee Gifford found out red wine was good for your health.
PB2 is made by slow roasting peanuts then pressing them to remove almost all of the fat and oil. Now I know I've said before that you want all the good fat that comes in peanut butter, I'm recommending this stuff for those times when you are having your second or third helping of the day. This peanut powder tastes just like the real thing. You can add water to it to make a spread, toss it in a smoothie for a nutty kick, or use it as a substitute in baked goods.
It's only 45 calories for two tablespoons (the real stuff has 190-210), and has 2 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein per serving!

The all natural ingredients include: roasted peanuts, sugar, and salt.
And it also comes in a Chocolate flavor...I'm thinking Reeses replacement!
GG Scandanavian Bran Crispbread
Dubbed by one nutrition Nazi in my office as "what all the anorexics are eating these days," GG Scandinavian Crisp Bread is THE lowest calorie cracker on the market.
At 12 calories a piece, these large crispy snacks are a great grab when you're on the go and need a quick fix. Each piece has 5 grams of fiber so with minimal caloric damage, you can quell your craving for carbs without instantly feeling hungry again. The brand boasts the title of "The Appetite Control Cracker," and I must say it works.
I like to spread one with some hummus or peanut butter for a tasty mid day treat. It also comes in a flaked form to add a fiber boost to yogurts, cereal, or salads.
And the ingredients are simple: wheat bran, rye flour, and salt.
Sante Fe Carb Tortilla Company "Carb Chopper" White Tortillas
These tortillas are so legit you'll think they they were smuggled in from Tijuana. At 70 calories each, the large doughy wraps taste just like the regular flour version but at a third of the calories. They have a minuscule 7 carbs each, 3 of which are fiber, compared to the average which typically have 4o to 60 grams.
I use these in all Mexican recipes and I swear, no one can tell the difference. Grill them with some fat free cheese to make a quesadilla or fill them up with ground turkey for a low cal soft taco.
Nooodle
Just when you thought diet soda and coffee were the only things you could have for zero cals, this imitation pasta company has come out with a no nutritional value noodle.
The spaghetti alternative is much like the soy based Shirataki brand but with much less of the fishy smell and taste. It is also ZERO calories per serving! That means you can have a heaping plate of it with your favorite bolongnese and not bat an eyelash at the carb count.
They are made of high fiber yam flour and little else. Check out their website for great recipe ideas.
You can order all of these products off their websites or search for a store near you. If you're in the L.A. area though, head over to my favorite health hotspot, Lo Carb U on Melrose and Rossmore.
Happy Carb-Cutting!
